Phone and SMS

Phone & SMS gives the workspace its own phone numbers. Each number can send and receive text messages and make and take calls from the browser, and every text and call lands in the Inbox as part of the contact's conversation.

The trap: going over the included amount does not stop anything — it bills. The plan includes a monthly amount of SMS, voice minutes and AI minutes. When it runs out, sending and calling keep working and the extra is charged as you go. Nothing in the Inbox warns you at the moment you cross the line; watch Usage.

Turning it on

Open Phone & SMS and choose Enable Phone & SMS. The card shows what the plan includes each month:

Buying a number

Add Phone Number searches available numbers in 15 countries, by type — Local, Toll-Free or Mobile. Buying one creates two channels at once: SMS {number} and Phone {number}. Numbers you own are listed under My Numbers.

A number is rented, and its rent counts as usage from the day you buy it.

Releasing a number

Release gives the number back, after the confirmation Release {phone}? This cannot be undone.

Releasing does not remove its two channels. Switch them off or delete them afterwards so nobody tries to send from a number you no longer have.

SMS

  • Plain text only. Formatting and attachments are dropped. Use Insert URL to share a link.

  • The composer counts characters and parts: a message is split into segments, and each segment counts as one SMS. Accents and emoji make segments shorter.

  • Numbers are stored in international format. A 10-digit number without a country code is taken to be from the US or Canada.

Calls

Calls run in the browser — no phone needed. Call in the conversation list opens the dialer, and Call in an SMS or Phone conversation calls that contact. Incoming calls show a banner with the option to answer.

Every call is recorded in the conversation as Completed or Missed, and calls can start automations — see Automations.
